MarBella Corfu Review
Overlooking the Ionian Sea, the 5‑star MarBella luxury hotel in Corfu, Greece, is a beach resort offering memorable island holidays. Surrounded by lush landscaped gardens, the resort enjoys a great range of high‑end facilities and benefits from exclusive concierge services. The MarBella resort is the perfect place to discover the luxurious pleasures of one of the finest Greek islands. The hotel is beautifully situated amidst an olive grove and the private Agios Ioannis Peristeron beach, making it both unmistakably Greek and endlessly exotic. Its prime location offers a range of fun and amusing activities for guests to enjoy, from casual games on the tennis and mini‑soccer courts, to an adrenaline‑filled boot camp. And that’s without even mentioning the various water sports on offer. The fine rooms, breath‑taking sea views, various dining options, relaxing spa therapies and treatments, along with the fun sports activities on offer, ensure an unforgettable holiday experience at the 5‑Star MarBella Corfu Hotel.
There are several separate restaurants to choose from: a beachside seafood eatery (dinner, warm months only), the à la carte poolside restaurant (generic Mediterranean and Greek fare), an Italian right next door with dynamite puds in particular, the Splash American Diner, mostly so in its decor and soundtrack (C&W, doo-wop) rather than a continental fusion menu, and the main, buffet breakfast and supper restaurant at reception level. Breakfast fare, including a live-cooking bar dishing up omelettes, pancakes and so on, is of a high standard (except for weak coffee), as is the evening meal choice for half-boarders (the default rate here), where you would probably not eat anything twice over a week’s stay.
‘A 1960s-founded resort hotel that’s been given a completely new look following a three-year refurbishment completed in 2014 (including the knocking together of various rooms to create bigger units), and now matches its official five-star rating thanks also to willing staff and good food’ (The Telegraph).
For the more adventurous guests there are more serious challenges, including hiking, cycling, climbing, diving, sea-kayaking and sailing, along with a wide choice of self-guided tours, perfect for exploring the island of Corfu.
Lushly vegetated hillside above the island’s east coast-road tunnel at Ágios Ioánnis Peristerón. Views across the straits to the mainland around Igoumenítsa are spectacular. There is some traffic noise at the very lowest units, mitigated by double glazing.
MarBella Corfu Hotel has fresh water pool along with the cascade sea water pool with Jacuzzi. As well as protected private beach that has been awarded with the blue flag have sunbeds and umbrellas, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim or relax in the Greek sunshine.
With 384 units in total, spread over nine distinct levels, the MarBella Corfu doesn’t rate as intimate, though clever, tiered positioning of the six separate wings gives a solid illusion of privacy and exclusivity. It’s also classy enough to host the odd fashion shoot, with the straits view, lush lawns and beach facilities as backdrops. But the place is labyrinthine, with concealed entrances, so you will get lost, even equipped with the little folding map which you’re given on check-in. After the refit, there are so many subdivisions of rooms – notionally 15 – that even some of the management confess to not being sure exactly how many categories exist. Expect, however, an array of standard doubles, superior doubles with private whirlpool and patio, family rooms, junior suites with plunge- or whirlpool tubs, two-bedroom suites with either one or two bathrooms (sometimes a lounge too), and top-floor presidential suites.
Décor throughout MarBella Corfu Hotel has been updated and is minimalist without being outré, featuring veneer flooring, big LCD TVs, coffee/tea-making apparati, soft furnishings in earthy tones and stone- rather than tile-clad bathrooms, sometimes with rain showers.
Five two-bedroom suites are fitted with small, shallow (1.2m) plunge-pools where garden lawn used to be; Suite 5014 has vast storage in the main queen-sized bedroom, and an en-suite with artistic sink plus bathtub-shower combo; the second bedroom is less grand, with twins, and the bathroom only having a shower cubicle.
Younger guests can have fun splashing around in the children’s water park pool or the baby pool (depending on their age), enjoy delicious kids meals, make new friends at kids club, enjoy a day at the playground, as well as spending some quality time with the whole family. The children’s pool (40-80 cm deep) offers water slides and a splash park and the toddler pool (30 cm deep) ensure a safe environment for the younger guests.
The two adult pools (one fresh water, one salt) are unheated, so April/May dips can be chilly. Much of the hotel beach, accessed by shaded steps over the road tunnel or an underground passage, is in fact a sand-filled lido. On the patch of ‘real’ beach, a water-sports jetty offers ringo and the like, plus there’s a independent scuba school (poseidoniadivecenter.gr); the water here is clean, with abundant sea-life (including a cuttlefish who scooted away from this writer, leaving only an ink-cloud), though most local dive sites are a boat-ride distance away.
The spa is small but sweet, though scheduled to move to larger quarters in the near future; there’s a yoga room in the main building; Wi-Fi is fast and notionally ubiquitous, though may not reach some of the more downhill units. An hour’s massage costs around €110 (£92).
In 2015, two tennis courts were set up (complimentary first lesson from on-site coach), but this has made a cramped parking situation even worse – you may have to leave hire cars in parking at the base of the hill. For many guests, assiduous service from the multinational staff makes the place. Restaurant wait-staff are on the case but not overly obtrusive.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Restrictions and Social-Distancing Measures:
1. When Governmental restrictions are eased, how quickly do you hope to reopen the hotels and, do your plans include being fully functional with all facilities operational?
The Greek Government imposed a nationwide lockdown effective from March 23rd, only 2 weeks prior to welcoming our first guests at MarBella Corfu and 3 weeks at MarBella Nido for the summer 2020 season. All our pre‑opening procedures had already been completed and all of our teams were fully staffed and ready. Upon easing of the governmental and international travel restrictions, we will be ready to re‑open our doors with our facilities operational and harmonised with the required health and safety protocols.
2. What, practically, have you been able to do with your hotels during the Coronavirus enforced closure?
During the lockdown period, certain facility improvements have been made, elevating the guest stay and experience. The main pool area at MarBella Corfu has been redesigned and refurbished with new, comfy sunbeds with mattresses added, ensuring greater comfort and higher level of privacy. Similarly, the beach experience has been enhanced with the full renovation of the man‑made wooden deck, whilst additional improvements occurred in different hotel corners, which our guests will soon find out.
3. Can you elaborate, once the hotels are operational again, on the additional measures that will be introduced to help prevent the spread of Covid‑19?
For 50 years now, MarBella Collection’s utmost priority has always been the wellbeing of our guests, our staff and our partners. The following actions/measures have been developed in order to offer a hassle‑free enjoyable holiday to our valuable guests during their stay within the resorts.
Health Protocols and Prevention. Our already strict international hygiene standards that are fully qualified with ISO 22000 & ISO 14001 will be enhanced with additional measures adhering to the latest protocols imposed by the Greek Government, the ECDC, and the WHO. All common areas and accommodation will be rigorously sanitized and disinfected by a certified third party company and guests will have access to hygiene stations in all public areas including lifts, restaurants and public toilets.
Staff Training. Our staff will be provided with training from a certified external organisation on COVID-19 prevention and protection methods, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, action plans and emergencies. All staff will also be provided with appropriate personal protection equipment.
Social Distancing. The design and layout of the hotels will also be reviewed to ensure that the indoor layout of our properties complies with social distancing regulations.
Working Towards A Contactless 5 Star Guest Experience. Governed by an innovative spirit, MarBella Collection has already developed its own Mobile Application which we are looking into integrating further into the guest experience.
4. We know that the MarBella Collection of hotels pride themselves on high levels of customer service and care. Do you feel that social distancing will affect your ability to maintain those high standards?
Hotel services are being adapted to allow an enjoyable, authentic holiday experience, whilst also being mindful of the health and hygiene of all guests and staff. Social distancing rules will be implemented into our spacious public areas, restaurants, pools and beaches. That way, guest experience will not only remain intact but will be elevated with increased elements of privacy and exclusivity.
5. What are the key environmentally sustainable attributes within your hotel group?
As a local three generation family business, one of our main concerns has been to fully develop a sustainability programme that will support the Group’s initiatives into minimizing its environmental footprint, acquiring necessary certifications (Green Key) and applying ISO 14001 standards. Significant actions have been taken towards the improvement of energy & water saving performance, the adaptation of a solid recycling and waste management programme, along with the introduction of ecofriendly materials. Our initiatives extend beyond our hotels operations as we have introduced to our guests Posidonia Meadows, a Natura 2000 protected oceanic ecosystem, growing in the sea bottom in front of MarBella Corfu beach area, through an underwater photographic exhibition available on the hotel premises. Emphasizing a more sustainable supply chain, at MarBella Nido, we source our ingredients locally which are all prepared with real passion by our team of chefs at our restaurants.
6. How do you appeal to, and service, multigenerational family’s?
The desires and demands of guests evolve with age and focus. By recognising these different needs, the MarBella Group has been able to differentiate its product offering with the creation of three unique properties, designed to meet different needs, yet sharing the common values of superb service, exceptional experiences and outstanding luxury. As they journey through life, guests of the MarBella Collection return again and again to find their ever‑changing needs met in one of our extraordinary properties. Our product design philosophy features a stunning array of spacious accommodation options, a broad range of activities for adults, children and teenagers, an extended range of culinary experiences, and an enhanced entertainment programme catering the different needs of the family members.
7. Those that have experienced one, or more, of your fabulous MarBella hotels, will have their own much-loved restaurant but, which is your favourite?
When it comes to gastronomy, the numerous options MarBella Collection offers, makes it difficult to answer. The culinary journey that kicks off with the Greek delicacies at Platea restaurant (MarBella Corfu), continues with the Italian Fine Dining at Comodo (MarBella Corfu) and ends with the Gourmet Corfiot recipes at Apaggio restaurant (MarBella Nido) paired with unobstructed sea views, is an experience that every guest needs to enjoy.
