‘Elysium Hotel Paphos is inspired by Byzantine architecture complete with arches and columns and with a rich use of local honey-coloured stone, marble and wood, the Elysium manages to be both palatial and welcoming’ (The Telegraph).
From the reception and guest services teams’ local knowledge to the efficiency of the suited waiting staff, the hotel runs like a well-oiled machine. A choice of restaurants and bars is complemented by a library and a seriously stylish wellness centre offering ESPA beauty treatments, swimming and a gym. Within the grounds are further multi-level pools, tennis courts and a children’s play area. A Byzantine-style chapel is popular for weddings.
The quiet thud of your room’s timber door closing and the refreshing décor of creamy white with accent fuchsia soft furnishings within give you a sense of being in your own cosy haven. Crisp linens, tasteful lamps and cushions add to the ambience. All rooms at the Elysium have a balcony or terrace, en-suite bathroom and come complete with features that include free Wi-Fi and a magnifying mirror. The rooms here are good value for money if you love luxurious surroundings.
Guests’ dining experience is a serious business here. There are five restaurants, two bars, the Mare Nostrum Pool Bar and the Astria Bar, and the beautiful, newly refurbished Café Occidental. Locals in the know will tell you it’s a lovely indulgence to take afternoon tea with pastries or an evening cocktail in this elegant bar-cum-informal dining space presented in a new décor inspired by the sea.
All the restaurants at the Elysium serve local produce, including vegetables and herbs from the hotel’s own garden. Recommended restaurant, Ristorante Bacco, serves Tuscan-inspired cuisine and is designed to resemble a wine cellar with a vaulted ceiling. A glass-fronted wine-storage cellar tempts with serious vintages, with price tags to match. Cypriot dishes are served in the open-air Mediterraneo (don’t miss the theatre of its open kitchen and the chefs’ excellent Moussaka), while sushi is the specialty of O’Shin and international a la carte cuisine is served in the refurbished Epicurean restaurant.
Breakfast is served buffet-style in the Lemonia Piazza with a seemingly endless selection of fruit and cereals which can be enjoyed on the terrace.
Children are catered for with amenities that include a playground, video room and pools. Swimming and tennis lessons are available. The Angel’s Kids Club for three- to 12-year-olds has a programme of craft workshops. Rooms with connecting doors or separate bedrooms are offered to families, while a babysitting service is an option and all of the restaurants have children’s menus.
