Quinta da Bela Vista is a luxurious colonial-style mansion set in two hectares of botanical gardens on the hills outside Funchal. The 5-star property has just been voted Europe’s Leading Boutique Hotel at the World Travel Awards.
Facilities include a heated outdoor pool, a tennis court, a sauna and a gym. There are two restaurants (one buffet and one à la carte) and two bars. A shuttle service to the centre of Funchal (3kms away) runs several times a day from Monday to Saturday.
About Funchal
Funchal is a “good base for all the island’s attractions”, says The Daily Telegraph. We recommend visiting the Mercado dos Lavradores, a historic fruit and flower market bursting with exotic aromas, and taking a cable-car ride to the neighbourhood of Monte for incredible views of the city. In Monte, you can ride a wicker toboggan sledge down the steep, winding streets back towards Funchal.
