The Grand Palladium White Island Resort & Spa stands next to the Ses Salines Nature Reserve and just a few metres away from the island’s most exclusive facilities, and is the only area in Ibiza to combine, the setting and tranquillity with easy access to the most avant-garde and fashionable district. Guests at the resort can make the most of the best-known area of Ibiza, where there is a large shopping centre, a water park, many leisure districts and they can do all kinds of activities. The complex is at the end of Playa d’en Bossa beach, little more than two miles from the airport and three miles from Ibiza Town. Clubs such as Ushuaïa and Space are within staggering distance but it is not noisy at the hotel. Buses stop nearby.

It is all white and gold and shiny with a sensation of space and light. Natural tones are soothing after a night out. The complex is arranged around a massive pool with teak decking and palm trees. Staff are multilingual and take time to make sure guests are happy and getting the most out of their stay. Guests can use the considerable facilities of the Grand Palladium Palace Ibiza Resort & Spa next door, which include two large pools, a kids’ pool, a gym, tennis courts and other sports’ courts. There are fitness classes in and out of the pool throughout the day. The Zentropia Spa has an appealing aqua circuit (€20/£15). Treatments include the Ibiza Summer experience, with an olive oil massage and foot bath with Ibizan salt. Evening entertainment takes place in a large outdoor arena at the Palace, so you can easily avoid it if it’s not your thing.

There are 430 rooms and suites, making this one of the largest hotels in Ibiza. Décor is all white with cerise and mustard design details. All have decked balconies or terraces. Mine overlooked the pool with a sea view thrown in. I liked the open wardrobe with two big drawers and the bleached wood panelling on the back wall. There was an iPod dock and a 42-inch television. It was nice to have a kettle and I glimpsed an iron and ironing board in a cupboard. My bathroom, with white-brick tiles, had a walk-in shower but some have bathtubs. Toiletries were fine but not particularly luxe, and the same goes for the hairdryer. As well as a robe and slippers, you get a beach bag and sarong, which came in very handy. The large suites – 86 square metres – face the sea and are on two levels with hot tubs on the terrace.

Sa Prunera is a buffet restaurant with a lot of cooking going on, and a pleasant terrace. There is an impressive selection of excellent-quality food for breakfast, lunch and dinner and all points in between too, far superior to usual hotel buffet food. You can also eat at the Mediterranean, Mexican and Italian restaurants at the Grand Palladium Palace, so there is plenty of variety if you are staying for a fortnight.
