How to Plan your Perfect Holiday
Family holidays are the perfect opportunity to enjoy some quality family time together, encourage bonding and present an opportunity for some fun and relaxation. If you are tired of revisiting the same destination or perhaps would like to jet off to somewhere new as oppose to staying on British soil, but find yourself filled with questions, then our team of experts at Going Luxury have shared some of their tips to help you have the perfect family holiday that you all deserve.
Preparation is Key
We have all heard it time and time again, fail to prepare, prepare to fail. This is especially true when booking a holiday for you and your family. As UK law now states that children can no longer enjoy a break away during term-time without parents incurring a hefty fine, term-time savings are no longer a viable option.
However, if you are prepared to allow a minimum of 3-6 months from booking your holiday to jetting off, then there are some great savings to be had. Moreover, if you book with us at Going.Luxury we can recommend the best dates for you and your family to ensure that all of your needs are met without your bank balance taking a hit.
Family Affair
As mentioned earlier, planning your holiday is just as important as the holiday itself. So when looking at potential destinations, think about some of the following:
- Self-catering or All-Inclusive – Do you want your older children to embrace the local culture and taste some of the dishes or would you rather have the option of a buffet for your fussy eaters and baby facilities for heating up milk?
- Activities – Do you want a children’s club, spa, wide range of restaurants or perhaps an on-site water park?
- Climate – If you do want to visit a hot country with little ones make sure your accommodation has air-conditioning for a peaceful night’s sleep. This is particularly important when travelling with babies.
Once you have managed to narrow down your destinations to a short-list, sit down with the rest of your family (if you have older children or teenagers) and ask them what they think and be open to other options providing it fits within your budget.
Travel Essentials
You have finally nailed down a date and have a destination in your sights, but before you click book make sure that the children all have up-to-date passports and that you have taken out appropriate cover for insurance purposes.
If you are travelling further afield to somewhere exotic, then our team will let you know if you need to have any vaccinations and will be on hand to answer any questions that you may have.
Let’s Fly
Depending on your child’s attention span, you may wish to pack some toys and games to keep them entertained throughout the flight. Why not consider downloading some films for them to watch in the event of potential delays? You can also pack pre-flight snacks to keep them fed, but remember liquids can’t be taken through after security, except for baby food or milk.
In-resort Care
Foreign destinations can expose you and your family to all the elements, making them susceptible to heatstroke, sunburn and much more. So for peace of mind consider packing a first aid kit with all of the basics such as plasters, Calpol and sting relief to name just a few.
Other essentials include a high factor sun cream, after-sun, plenty of water to keep them hydrated and a sunhat to keep them protected from the sun. Remember a baby’s skin is particularly delicate so keep them in the shade as much as possible, but avoid covering their pram with a blanket, as this can cause heat exhaustion and be dangerous.
Lastly, if you are worried about the prospect of your child going missing if you happen to get separated, consider putting your number into their phone, agreeing on a safe space to meet at or alternatively give them a wristband to wear.
Hopefully these tips have answered some questions that you may have but remember when you book with us at Going.Luxury we are happy to assist you throughout the booking process and will be on hand right from start to finish.
