Around an hour’s drive from Heraklion Airport, this beachside Blue Palace Resort & Spa is in walking distance of the village of Plaka in Mirabello Bay, where there are numerous tavernas and bars, plus a bus service to Elounda three miles away. The private (pebble) beach is a stone’s throw away.

Contemporary cool mixes with traditional touches, such as pebble mosaics, clay roofs and wood shutters. Suites and bungalows are dotted around the pretty palm and olive tree-filled gardens. The entire resort is low-lying and terraced, so blends beautifully into the landscape.

Knowledgable staff (many have been there since the resort opened) know the area well and arrange excursions fuss-free. This is a large hotel with good facilities including a spa with hammam and sauna, PADI dive centre, two flood-lit tennis courts, water-sports centre, bikes, kids’ club, fitness centre with classes including yoga and pilates.

The 251 suites and bungalows are clean and bright with neutral (mainly cream and wood) furnishings. Even the most basic rooms (superior bungalows) have a king-size bed (or twin beds), seating area, sea view, Nespresso machine, marble bathroom and balcony. Many of the rooms have private plunge-pools of varying sizes. The Island Luxury Suite Sea View is perfect for romantics: they have a four-poster bed, egg-shaped bath, patio with loungers and large pool. The Grand Villa boasts a private sauna, massage area, gym and two pools.

There are five restaurants. The best is Blue Door, a traditional Greek-style taverna set in a converted stone fisherman’s house on the water’s edge; catch of the day cooked over the grill with meze is not to be missed. A buffet breakfast is served in main restaurant, Olea (glasses of champagne included), while Flame, a stunning restaurant set beneath a vaulted ceiling, specialises in locally sourced steak. Isola Beach Club has drinks and snacks and the daybeds are a choice place for sunset cocktails, while Arsenali Louge Bar, a candle-lit Moroccan-style lounge overlooking the sea, is a romantic post-dinner hang out.

Fitness Centre

Kids Club
- (for children 3 to 12 years old) Our supervised Kids Club guarantees our youngest guests get all the attention they deserve and ensures that they are happy, safe, and cared for. Upon arrival at the club, each child receives a surprise welcome package. We offer a number of engaging activities including theatrical play, painting, crafts, Greek dancing, mythology and doll making. Kids Club is available only to children aged 3 to 12-years-old. Flame specializes in expertly cooked steak dishes prepared from finest quality, locally sourced meat with a distinct flavour and fragrance. Classic and signature cuts, some exclusive, are served on large wooden platters, complemented by the freshest ingredients from carefully selected small-scale producers in the surrounding area.
- Many of the speciality herbs and vegetables are hand picked by our chefs shortly before preparation, direct from the restaurant’s purpose-built gardens. Guests will have the opportunity to visit these gardens and learn about the herbs used in the kitchen.
Blue Door

Isola
- Fresh Italian dishes created by our chef combined with the restaurant’s charming location by the main pool and beach ensures a delicious meal. A genuine Italian fare by the sea and one of the main pools is the best way to enjoy a relaxed lunch. Enjoy the breeze of the sea on the expanded veranda of Isola along with a great selection of pasta, risotti, hearty salads and other delicacies of our Italian restaurant.
Olea
- The resort’s principal restaurant is named Olea after the olive trees found in enormous Cretan pots that adorn the impressive veranda.
