Dusseldorf Christmas Market – The atmosphere at this huge German Christmas market is unbeatably cheery. Dusseldorf is not just one market but several, with the entire city centre caught up in festive celebrations for five full weeks.

On the market square in front of the historic Town Hall (Rathaus) artisans sell traditional gifts – such as the nativity carver from Bethlehem who produces life-size figurines from olive wood – while at the Flinger Strasse, you can buy hand-painted replicas of Dusseldorf town houses.

Once you’re done scouring the strassefor twinkling trinkets, grab a slab of traditional German gingerbread and head to Dusseldorf’s Old Town for a reviving refreshment – with over 260 pubs, this section of the city cheekily claims to be ‘the world’s longest bar’.

From 22 November to 30 December – a longer period than ever before – the Christmas Market will be inviting visitors to the city centre with a large variety of Christmas worlds in different looks. During the festive season, Düsseldorf will have lots of atmospheric new features.
