‘This boutique, five-star, adults-only resort clambers in tiers down to its own pristine beach. The style is minimalist modern, verging on stark, with only trickling water features and occasional shrubbery as relief. The fact of having just 74 rooms does lend an intimate, personal feel. Facilities include an appealing spa with indoor swimming pool, two outdoor swimming pools, plus a popular roof terrace with two whirlpool tubs and sun-loungers.’ (The Telegraph)
This boutique five-star adults-only resort clambers in tiers down to its own pristine beach. Book well in advance: the hotel is nearly always full thanks to exceptional service standards and a loyal repeat clientele.
Hillside above Vlýha Bay, 30 miles from Rhodes Town, one mile northwest of Líndos, descending to the beach sunbeds. A sequence of three lifts take you much of the way down from reception level, but still some stairs.
Minimalist modern, verging on stark, with only trickling water features and occasional shrubbery as relief. Having just 74 units lends an intimate, personal feel. Common areas include a naturally lit fitness centre, adjacent sauna/hammam, appealing spa (again, natural light) with indoor swimming pool and all thalasso/massage therapies, plus a roof terrace with two whirlpools and sun-loungers. Two outdoor swimming pools await at main restaurant level (heated, 1.4m deep) and further downhill (unheated).
The staff make the place for guests, managing the difficult balance of being both approachable and effective. Free yoga lessons are offered at a shaded, open-air ‘relaxation area’. Free Wi-Fi signal available throughout the premises. Expect a complimentary in-room basket of arrival treats, renewed during your stay.
All 74 units (70 rooms/suites in six categories, two villas, two maisonettes) perch downhill from the main building. And all, even the humblest standard double, have views north up to the dramatic palisade beyond Haráki. Typical five-star goodies are supplied: bathrobes, slippers, hair-dryer, television, sound system, DVD player, coffee/tea-making gear. Veneer flooring and big balconies come as standard, as do bathrooms with a window admitting natural light via the sleeping area (but frosted-glass toilet and shower cubicles, as well as whirlpool tubs). Neutral earth tones predominate. Bedding comprises anatomic mattresses (king size or twins) and a pillow menu.
A few doubles and junior suites share a plunge-pool; double deluxes have their own balcony hot tub. Money not an issue? Check into a villa or maisonette, with a private heated swimming pool and (for maisonettes) private gyms.
The focal Luna Rossa lounge bar, with unimpeded vistas north, opens evenings. Nearby, the Five Senses fine-dining à la carte restaurant serves up lobster and similar after dark (three courses from £36, not including lobster). Downstairs the main Smeraldo restaurant provides half-board supper (lunch à la carte), and copious, varied breakfast. There’s also a midday pool-bar, but nothing close to the beach.
